Pirate Ship
The captain can be on deck--the top bunk--and the prisoners in the hold--bottom bunk. Add a bucket lid for steering, a paper towel tube for a spyglass, old jewelry or pretty rocks in a box for treasure and your kids can spend hours sailing the high seas. You can help them make a Jolly Roger flag out of a piece of paper or old sheet and a black marker, and tape it to a curtain rod or dowel.
Stagecoach
The driver and the person riding shotgun can sit on the top bunk and keep an eye out for outlaws and bandits. Other kids or dolls and stuffed animals can be the passengers they are protecting. A bandanna, cowboy hat, toy gun and ropes tied to the back of a chair for lines for driving horses can add to the realism.
Camping
Tuck a sheet under the top bunk, so it hangs over the opening to the bottom bunk and kids can pretend they are in a tent. Give them flashlights or battery-operated lanterns to read books or play games in the tent. Add a touch of adventure by making animal sounds outside the tent.
Double Decker Bus
The thrill of driving a bus is where it can take you. With a little imagination, it can be Mars or Broadway. The passengers can request destinations and the driver can figure out how to get there. The driver can decide if the bus needs to float or fly. Give the driver a bucket lid for a steering wheel and a broom handle to open and close the door. Passengers can use pennies or make play tokens.
