Water-Balloon Dodge Ball
Fill balloons with water and place the balloons in a large bucket. Kids should be divided into two teams and position themselves opposite one another. One ball is used to try to hit a person from the opposing team, thereby popping the balloon. A new balloon is used when one pops. If you want to keep score, you can add a point each time a team throws a balloon and it pops when the opposing team tries to catch it. You can add variations to the game by having one person stand between two or more people and try to grab the water balloon while the others throw it to each other.
Cold Potato
Cold potato is played exactly like the hot potato game, but instead of passing around a regular ball, ice cubes are used. Make plenty of ice cubes so that several games can be played--if it̵7;s very hot outside, the ice may melt quickly. The kids should sit in a circle and be given one ice cube. Play a song from a favorite CD while the ice cube is being passed around to each person in the circle as quickly as possible. The person holding the ice cube when the song ends is eliminated. The winner of the game is the one who is left after everyone has been eliminated.
Sprinkler Tug of War
Sprinkler tug of war is played exactly like tug of war except the use of a sprinkler will keep kids cool when playing under the hot sun. For this game, you̵7;ll only need a sprinkler system in your garden and a long rope. Divide the children into two teams. Have the teams stand on opposite ends of the sprinkler, each at equal distances from the sprinkler. Each team tries to pull the other team until one team pulls the opposing team over the sprinkler. As the kids try to tug each other over the sprinkler, they cool off when they are sprayed by the sprinkler.
