Setting Up
Start Chaotic by first setting up the game area and your deck. Each player should place his mat in front of him, with the Chaotic logo face up. Your opponent should place her board at the top of yours so that both boards are touching.
Your deck should consist of three Creature Cards, 10 Attack Cards and five Location cards. Each player must place his creature cards on the marked spaces of his board. Shuffle your Attack cards and place them face down on the board in the area marked "Attack." Do the same with the Location cards.
Flip a coin to decide who goes first. Both players will draw the first two Attack Cards from their deck and keep them in their hand.
Movement
When each player is taking her turn, she will complete two phases before the turn switches to the opposing player. The first phase begins when the player reveals the first card from his deck of Location Cards. This card will be the setting for the battle, and players must examine the card to see if there are any bonuses or effects that must be adhered to during the turn.
Next, you enter the action phase, in which you will need to move at least one of your Creature Cards in any direction on the board. Creatures can move forward or backward one space on the game board, but they cannot occupy the same space as another creature. If your creature is on a space directly in front of your opponent's creature, combat can take place. Only one instance of combat can occur each turn.
Combat and Winning
Begin combat by first checking to see which creature will attack first. This is done by examining the "Initiative" marker on the Location card. The creature with the highest value in the listed Initiative attacks first. If the Initiative is the Fire Element, the creature with the highest Fire Rating attacks first. If no creature possesses that Initiative, the player who began combat attacks first.
The attacking player will draw an Attack card from his deck and add it to his hand. Out of the three cards now in his hand, the player will choose one to play. Damage is determined by adding the base damage of the attack to any bonuses from Elemental Damage. For example, a water-based attack by a water creature will deal more damage than a water-based attack by a fire-based creature. The total damage is subtracted from the opponent's creature; it is now his turn to attack back in the same manner. Any creature that receives more damage than its total energy is discarded.
Play continues until one player has successfully defeated each of his opponent's creatures.
