Fun & Active Indoor Games for Kids

When the weather is at its worst, it can be difficult to keep kids from running around and trashing the house out of boredom. Little do many parents know, there is an abundance of games available to keep their kids occupied. All that is required is a little imagination and creativity.
  1. The Games

    • Bowling is a great way to spend time on a rainy day, but you don't always have to go to a bowling alley. It's very easy to create a kid-friendly bowling alley right in your own home. To make the bowling pins you will need plastic cups and some duct tape. Place one cup on the ground with the opening facing the floor, and another one on top of that upside down. Tape the ends together. You can make as many bowling pins as you wish. Take a tennis ball and let the kids take turns knocking down the bowling pins. You can even write down the score to add a competitive twist.

The "Penguin Shuffle" can keep your children occupied and teach them about balance. Have them stand side by side, each with a bean bag resting on their feet. Have them shuffle across the floor in a penguin-like fashion, being careful not to drop their bean bags on the ground. The first player to the other side wins!

Sardines is the exact opposite of hide and seek. One child hides, and everyone else has to go find that one player. Once someone finds that player, they have to hide in the same hiding spot, and in the end everyone squeezes together into the small space like a can of sardines. The last person to find the child hiding is "it" next.

"Find it" is a fun game that entitles the kids to be silent, finally giving you a little peace and quiet! You place an object (such as a bouncy ball) in a place where it can be seen, but will be hard to find. Your kids have to look around for it silently, and when they find it, sit down where they are and not give away where the object is. The winner is the first person to find the object.
