Skipping Race
Line up children next to one another. Create a finish line and have them race toward it. The kids must skip, not run, to the finish line. If a child starts running or does not fully skip, he is out. For older kids, lay logs across the racing area for the kids to skip over as they are racing.
Skipping Freeze
Have children skip around a room or outside as you play music. Turn the music off. When the music is turned off everyone must freeze. If a child is still moving he must sit out and watch the game. Once the music is on again the children can begin skipping again. Start and stop the music until there is only one player left. You can also play this game without music. Yell "stop" and "go" to indicate when the children should be still or skipping.
Hopscotch
Using chalk, draw eight squares in a hopscotch board pattern. Draw three squares in a line going away from you. Label them 1, 2 and 3. Square 1 should be closest to you. Draw two squares side by side above square 3. Label them 4 and 5. Square 4 should be on the left side. Draw one more square, 6, centered above squares 4 and 5. Draw two more squares side by side above square 6. Label them squares 7 and 8. You will need a stone or beanbag for a marker. The game starts with one player throwing the marker into square 1. She then has to hop on one foot to square 8. The player must not hop in the square where the marker is. After she has hopped to square 8 she must pick up the marker on the way back. If she falls while picking up the marker or hops out of the square, her turn is over. The game continues with the marker being thrown into each square. The person who has thrown the marker into all eight squares first wins.
