Dress-Up & Make-Up Games for Kids

Many kids enjoy playing dress-up, as it gives them a chance to express their creativity through role playing. They get the chance to do things that they don't do on a daily basis, such as wear unusual clothing, clothing that is too big and make-up. Games that incorporate clothing and make-up provide an imaginative way to entertain a group of children.
  1. Oversized Running Race

    • To set up this game, you will need enough space for a short race. Divide the children into groups of three or four. For each group, provide an adult-sized skirt, shirt, high heels and pillows to stuff the outfit so that it stays on properly. Place the clothing for each group in a pile about 5 feet away from the starting point, and set up a make-up table about 5 feet away from the clothing piles. The finish line should be another 5 feet from the make-up table.

The race begins with each team running to their clothes pile, where they will dress one team member, using the pillows to stuff into the clothes to fit. Next, all team members run together to the make-up table. The dressed-up child is not allowed to use his hands to hold up the oversized outfit while running. At the make-up table, each dressed-up child must have eye shadow, blush and lipstick applied by his teammates. After the make-up is applied, the team must run together to the finish line.

    Blindfolded Game

    • Lay make-up on a table. Fill a toy box with articles of clothing. Divide the kids into pairs; one child in each pair must be blindfolded. Give each pair a list that specifies the clothing they need to wear and the make-up that must be applied. The blindfolded child should not see the list before she is blindfolded. For example, one pair may get a list that says "pants, shirt, eye shadow and lipstick." The child that is blindfolded must dig through the box and find the correct articles of clothing for her partner to wear. The child that is not blindfolded may not help the blindfolded kid, only telling her what to get and if the incorrect clothing was selected. After the one child is dressed, they will run together to the make-up table. The blindfolded child will have to feel around for the correct makeup items and apply the makeup to her partner. The first pair finished, with the correct clothing and make-up as specified on their list, wins.

    Silly Fashion Show

    • Provide a selection of clothing, accessories and make-up so the kids can get themselves dressed and primped for a fashion show. Also have art supplies such as paper, markers and tape in case the kids need to make any accessories for their outfits. However, the twist is that the kids must create silly identities to dress up as. For example, one child may decide to be a superhero that saves toys from the trash. That child will dress up as a superhero, perhaps using a pillowcase as a cape, taping a paper logo onto his chest and attaching toys to his outfit. Another child may dress up as a woman who loves to shop by putting on a fancy dress and carrying lots of bags. Each child will take a turn walking down a makeshift runway with his outfit on and make-up done, and the other kids will guess what type of character he is.
