Activity Ideas for Slumber Parties

Instead of having a slumber party where all the kids just watch movies and try to stay up all night, add some organized activities. The guests can make their own midnight snack before going on a midnight hike with flashlights in the neighborhood or yard. Group facials or manicures are good activities for a girls' slumber party while boys might enjoy making sturdy cardboard shields for the free for all pillow fight. In the winter you can make a campfire in the fireplace. In the summer, have a marshmallow roast in the barbecue pit outside.
  1. Midnight Snacks

    • Individual home-made pizzas make filling midnight snacks. Give each child a piece of bread dough and allow them to take turns using a rolling pin to make a crust. Place the crust on a greased cookie sheet. Put a third of a cup of spaghetti sauce on the crust. Let each guest add pepperoni, cooked sausage, or chopped vegetables and shredded mozzarella cheese on the crust. Bake in a 400 degree oven for about 20 minutes. If you prefer to serve cupcakes or cookies, let the guests frost and decorate their own. Preserve the memory by taking pictures of each one.

    Girls' Activities

    • Girls love playing with make-up and nail polish. Buy an assortment of polish, eye shadow, lipstick and glitter make-up. Get a hand mirror for each girl at a dollar store. Assign an older girl to help younger girls apply the make up in safe sanitary ways. Then let each girl take her favorite polish and lipstick home as party favors. Another girls slumber party activity is to learn to knit, embroider, or sew a pillow. Assemble all the materials and tools ahead of time and make sure to be available to help. Of course, each guest will take her project home as a favor.

    Boys' Activities

    • Boys enjoy making things that they can use like swords, shields, paper airplanes, rockets, and wooden cars. Provide all the tools and materials that are needed to make what your guests will enjoy most. Assign a dad or an older boy to supervise the project. Make the craft early in the evening. Allow it to dry overnight. Early in the morning take the boys to a place where they can fly their airplane, shoot their rocket, race their wooden car, or have a fight with their homemade sword. Follow this with a hardy breakfast before the guests' parents pick them up to go home.
