Fun Car Driving Games

Taking a road trip can be a bonding and educational experience for the entire family. The great outdoors offers gorgeous scenery, while the enclosed space provides and ideal venue for catching up with each other. Unfortunately, over an extended ride, conversation tends to run out and nature gets a little repetitive. To revive spirits, engage passengers in driving games that are sure to take everyone's mind off the boredom.
  1. Alphabet Game

    • City streets, country roads and highways are all loaded with signs. There are road signs, billboards, store signs and even license plates and bumper stickers on passing cars. With words all around, it's easy to play a quick game of Alphabet. To play, everyone must find all the letters of the alphabet in order on a sign outside the car. Every person is their own team. You can't use a letter that someone else finds. When you see the letter that you are looking for, simply call it out and state where it is. For example "I see a C on that street sign." That way no one can claim your letter. The first person to make it to Z wins.

    20 Questions

    • 20 Questions has been a car-ride favorite for generations. Select a player to go first. That player must think of a famous person and not tell anyone who it is. The rest of the players must ask questions about the mystery person that can only be answered with "yes" or "no." Other players can ask a total of 20 questions. They may make a guess at any time, but the guess counts as a question. Whoever guesses correctly wins. If no one guesses by the time all 20 questions are exhausted, the first player wins.

    Name Chain

    • A third game to play in the car also involves famous people. Select someone to go first. That person states the first and last name of a celebrity. Then next player must also state a celebrity; however, the first letter of the first name of their celebrity must start with the same letter as the first letter of the player 1's celebrity's last name. Sound confusing? Here is an example: If the first player says "Louis Armstrong." the second player can say "Amy Grant." Then the third player can say "Gary Oldman." Continue until someone gets stumped. That player is out. The last remaining player to comes up with a name wins.
