Indoor Games for Bored Summer Kids

Summertime is a season that most kids and parents look forward to. Beautiful, warm weather coupled with the fact that school is out gives way for family vacations, playtime on the beach and so much more! However, what happens when you run into rainy weather, or kids who just feel like they have done every activity summertime has to offer and now cry boredom? Here are a few ideas for parents (and their kids) to consider when stuck in the house during the hottest months of the year.
  1. Fun in a Box

    • Board games are one of the oldest methods of fun for kids and adult alike. Some popular board games that will keep kids engaged are Monopoly, The Game of Life, Trivial Pursuit and Operation. These games involve interaction with others as well as laughs and fun. Other types of fun board games incorporate the use of a DVD player, like Scene It, which comes in multiple genres. Scene It has Disney versions, music versions and even ESPN versions for the sports enthusiast. Lastly, the most trendy method of indoor fun for kids are the ever-popular video game consoles as well as the new interactive Wii. The choices of video games kids can play is endless, and for the conscientious parent, are labeled with age appropriateness.

    Oldies But Goodies

    • If you think back to the days when there weren't Playstations or DVD interactive games, what could bored summer kids do to have fun? Card games such as Old Maid, War and Go Fish kept kids busy. Dominos, Checkers and Chess were also popular indoor games that still offer fun for bored summer kids in the new millennium. Hangman and S.O.S. are games that children can play with pencil and paper. And for kids who want to stay busy and challenged all day, you can offer them puzzles with more than 500 pieces. Even games such as 20 Questions or I Spy (for younger kids) require nothing but imagination and a fun spirit. Encourage your kids to come up with games of their own. You may be surprised at what they think of with when stretching the possibilities.
