Games to Play When it Rains at Church Camp

Church camp is a great place to play outside with friends and grow in faith with other believers. When it rains at church camp, kids often feel like it is raining on their parade, but it does not have to be that way. Preparing indoor games for campers to play in the event of inclement weather will help to ensure that kids are not bored being stuck in their cabins.
  1. Find That Bible Verse

    • Split the campers into teams of four or five kids and give each team a Bible. Write Bible verses onto index cards and put them into a fishbowl. Have each team draw an index card and try to find the verse listed on their card. Whichever team finds their verse first gets two points. The team acquiring 20 points first wins.

    Movie Marathon

    • Have the kitchen pop some corn for the kids, pour some juice, and put some movies on. Ask the kids to bring their pillows and slippers and relax for an afternoon of movie watching. Be sure to break up the day by giving the kids some time to stretch and do something active for a few minutes between movies.

    Charades

    • Break the kids into small groups to play a classic game of charades. Write down names of Bible characters and ask the kids to act out their character. The team that guesses each character first wins.

    Praise Gathering

    • Instead of moping around and thinking about how boring a rain day is at camp, get the kids fired up for worship. Put together some popular praise and worship songs and ask the kids to lead them. Help to increase the energy of worship by asking them to clap their hands to the music and providing a time where campers can offer song requests.

    Bible Skits and Talent Show

    • Have each cabin at camp put on a skit based on a popular Bible story. They can use materials found in their cabins to create costumes and entertain the other campers with their creativity. Campers who are musically or artistically gifted can offer musical numbers and dances for the entertainment of the other children. Conclude the show with a groupwide prayer, providing time for the kids to offer up prayers for any joys or concerns they may have.
