Online Games
Almost every home now contains at least one computer. Preschool children are learning how to play games and use the computer at home and at school. The great news is that there are plenty of online websites that have educational games preschoolers can play. One of these sites is set up by PBS, which is a TV network is geared toward children and education. Parents can feel good about allowing their children to play these games because the children will be learning at the same time. Of course, all Internet activity should be closely monitored by a parent.
Connect the Dots
Preschoolers are still trying to get their ABC's and 123's down. You can help them by creating some connect the dot pictures. Use letters or numbers to make a picture. The children will need to connect the letters or numbers in order so that the pictures shows up. You can then allow the children to color in the pictures. Make sure the pictures you create are of animals or something that the children enjoy. That way, they will stay excited about practicing the alphabet or counting.
Color Recognition
Preschoolers can play a fun game of color recognition. Parents or teachers should lay out a sheet of construction paper for each color they want their children to review. You can stick with the colors of the rainbow or you can make it a little harder by using such colors as teal or peach. Lay the colored construction paper pieces side by side. When you say "go," the children run to find an object to match each color. The first child who gets one object for each color wins.
You can also do this with shapes. Cut out different shapes you want your child to find and then have her go around the house and match the construction paper shape with a real object of the same shape.
