Games to Play With 8 Month Old

An 8-month-old baby is interested in exploration and becoming more mobile. Babies at this stage are generally beginning to crawl and will seek every opportunity to do so. Games to play with an 8-month-old should be sensitive to these needs and leave room for movement and word usage.

Game 1: Baby Soccer
- Playing baby soccer requires a ball (preferably a large yoga ball), another baby and an accompanying adult. Have babies face each other with the ball in front of them. Pick up one baby by waist and use both legs to kick ball to the other baby and continue. You can also play some upbeat music to stimulate the child further.
Game 2: Banana Fishing
- You will need a mixing bowl, water, a banana and paper towels for the banana fishing game. Fill the mixing bowl up with clean, filtered water. Cut a banana into several pieces, and throw them into the water. Tell baby it is time for fishing. Have baby try to grasp the banana pieces. It is best to start off with big pieces, than gradually decrease size.
Game 3: Highchair Art
- Eight-month-old babies love to play with their food. During meal time when the table is very messy, swirl the food around to mix the various colors. Tell the child all the names of the colors to foster verbal skills.
