Hair Styling Games for Barbie

Little girls are often notorious for wanting to play with their Barbie doll's hair. Playing with their doll's hair provides them with an opportunity to explore their creativity and imagine themselves in different kinds of hairstyles. Playing hair styling games can be great fun for little girls when they get together with their friends for play dates or sleepovers.
  1. Braiding Games

    • Show your little girl and her friends how to braid hair on a Barbie doll. Show her how to French braid or to make braided pigtails. Once she and her friends have gotten good at braiding hair, challenge them to a speed game. Name a certain braided hairstyle and see who can create the style the fastest. You might decide to offer a prize for the fastest girl or suggest that she help the others to increase their speed.

    Hair Cutting Games

    • Many times, little girls haphazardly cut off all of Barbie's hair in an effort to give her a chic style. Teaching girls how to properly cut the hair of their Barbie dolls (and safely handle scissors) can help to ensure that this does not become a habitual problem in your household. Purchase a book showing pictures of how to do basic haircuts and go through the steps one at a time with your little girl and her friends, letting them practice on the Barbie dolls. You might decide to get some cheaper dolls from a thrift store to begin with. Once they have gotten the hang of cutting hair, have them play a game of hair show. They choose photographs of basic hairstyles off the Internet and then try to replicate them. Once they are done, they put on a hair show with the Barbies and vote on whose hair is the best. Winner gets their own special pair of hair trimming scissors.

    Hair Coloring Games

    • Coloring the hair of Barbie can be great fun for little girls. They often experiment with magic markers that do an uneven job of coloring poor Barbie's head. Encourage your children to find better ways of coloring Barbie's hair by engaging them in a game. Provide materials such as Kool-Aid, berries, and tea that the girls can use to dye the hair of Barbie. Have them experiment and see who can come up with the most ways to dye Barbie's hair and who can come up with the longest list of color options. When they are done, write down all of the coloring ideas that worked, along with the corresponding colors. The next time they want to give their doll a new "do," they won't have to resort to magic markers.
