Cool, Fun & Healthy Kids' Games

There are a lot of fun games to play with kids that will keep them entertained and healthy because they keep them moving. Many kids are spending hours on end in front of the television or video games because that is what they perceive as cool. The fact of the matter is that there are some really fun games that will get kids up and moving, keeping them healthy.
  1. Wiffle Ball with a Twist

    • This is a great game that will keep kids moving even in the warm summer air. For this game you will need a wiffle ball and a sponge ball, such as those that are used in swimming pools, as well as three kiddie pools. Fill the kiddie pools with water and wet your sponge balls. You'll have to divide up the players into two teams and play a game of what would otherwise be baseball, except you have a ball that will splish and splash and the three kiddie pools are first, second, and third bases. When playing this game, you can change the rules to meet the needs of the age group, such as a 10-run rule, using a tee. Your kids will be happy to get off the couch and get moving when you play this version of wiffle ball.

    Healthy Cooking Contest

    • Teaching kids how to be healthy involves teaching them how to eat healthfully. A great game to play with older kids age 11 and up is a cooking contest. Divide children into teams of three to five, and give them ingredients to make a pizza or another favorite food. Instruct them not only to focus on taste and what they like, but on having a nutritionally balanced and healthy pizza. This game will teach the kids to work together, to make a pizza and show them that healthy things can taste really good. The judge should be an adult, who will choose the most nutritious pizza.

    Glow-in-the-Dark Ring Toss

    • Excite your kids by playing something a little out of the box. Glow-in-the-dark ring toss will cost you a few dollars, but the kids will get plenty of enjoyment out of the game. To play you need two sets of glow-in-the-dark bracelets, which can usually be purchased at your local dollar store or other discount retailer. Activate the bracelets by following the package directions, and then give each player two to three bracelets of the same color. Take the other set of bracelets and connect them together with the connectors that are provided, making one large circle. Place the large circle in the yard and have each of the players attempt to throw their rings into the larger circle. This can be played again and again, moving players back several feet with each turn.
