How to Play the Card Game War

War is a card game most commonly played in childhood. However, various versions for adults have evolved over time as well. Success in this game is based on luck. The thrill of winning the game can entice children. Therefore, playing for hours is common. Since the game is based upon comprehension of which player's card is higher, playing War can help improve motor and social skills in children.

Instructions

    • 1

      Shuffle and deal to both players. Each player receives 26 cards face down. The non-dealer obtains the first card of the deal. This continues until the complete deck is on the table.

      Start the game. Each player turns a card facing upward from the top of the stack. The person with the higher card takes both. Place the cards under the stack face down. Continue game play until a "War" is declared or until one player has the entire deck.

      Declaring "War." A war happens when both players turn up the same card. Keep both cards on the table. Grab another card from your deck, place it face down on the table. Take another card from the stack and place it face up. This pattern continues until one player has the higher card. The person with the higher card wins the "War" and receives all of the cards in play.
