Rules for Playing Bean Bag Toss

Bean bag toss is a game that many people may have played as children. It has scoring that is similar to other lawn games such as horse shoes, but can be played either indoors or outdoors. You can even bring bean bag toss with you when you travel.
  1. Distance

    • Place the two target platforms so that the distance between them is 30 feet between each of the target holes. If you don't have a tape measure, 12 to 15 adult paces is a good estimate.

    Number of Players

    • Bean bag toss is designed for play between two players, or by two teams consisting of two players each.

    Number of Tosses

    • Each player should be given four bean bags on his turn. The players should alternate tosses, throwing one bean bag each until all four have been thrown by both players.

    Scoring

    • Each player or team scores one point for each bean bag on the target platform and three points for each in the target hole. The player or team with the higher score for that round subtracts his opponent's score for that round from his and scores that number of points.

    Hitting Other Bean Bags

    • It is legal to hit either your own bean bag or an opponent's bean bag with one of your bean bag tosses in an attempt to knock it off the board or your bag into the hole.

    Winning

    • The first individual or team that scores 21 points in bean bag toss is the winner. The total of 21 does not have to be scored exactly; going over does not result in a penalty.
