How to Make Things From Empty 2 Liter Plastic Bottles

Instead of throwing your two-liter soda bottles away or recycling them, why not use them to entertain your children? With a few simple supplies, you can create two different sports-themed activities for your child: a bowling set and a baseball set.

Things You'll Need

  • 7 two-liter bottles
  • Construction paper
  • Tape
  • Paint
  • Magic markers
  • Sand or beads

Instructions

  1. Bowling Set

    • 1

Gather six empty two-liter bottles. Wash each bottle thoroughly and remove the label.

    • 2

Wrap a standard 8 1/2 x 11-inch piece of white construction paper around the bottle so that the ends of the paper touch. Tape the ends of the paper together where they meet.

    • 3

Write the numbers one through six on the bottles using a magic marker.

    • 4

Roll up aluminum foil to make a large bowling ball. This ball should have a diameter of between five and six inches.

    • 5

Fill each soda bottle with two cups of either sand or small beads to weight down the bottoms. Re-attach the lids to keep these items from spilling out.

    • 6

Place the bottles at the end of a flat playing surface. The row closest to the bowler should have one bottle, the next should have two bottles and the third row should have three bottles. These should be formed in a triangle. Place the bottles in numeric order.

    • 7

Choose an appropriate distance from the pins to stand and roll the aluminum-foil bowling ball (based on the age of the child). Give each player three turns per frame. Knocking all of the pins down on the first roll is a strike. Knocking all of them down by the second roll is a spare. Failing to knock all the pins down after two rolls results in a score of how many pins total are knocked down after the third roll.

    Baseball Game

    • 8

Thoroughly wash out an empty two-liter bottle and remove the sticker.

    • 9

Allow your child to decorate the bottle with magic markers or paints. This will be the bat for your home-made baseball game.

    • 10

Roll up aluminum foil to form a ball about two inches in diameter. This will be the baseball.

    • 11

Fill the two-liter bottle halfway with either sand or small beads for weight. Reattach the lid to keep these items from spilling out.

    • 12

Stand a safe distance from your child and throw the aluminum foil baseball for him to hit with the bottle "bat."
