Things You'll Need
Instructions
Host a snowman making contest. This is great for birthday parties or even an early New Year's day party. Gather together about three children per group if there is a large number of children. Be sure that there are extra scarves, carrots, items for buttons and eyes, food coloring, twigs or anything else creative that the children can come up with to create their snowman. Have a digital camera on hand for taking pictures. Have another adult judge the contest and give away small party favors as prizes.
Take up a winter battle in snow wars. Split up the children into two teams. Let them build snow forts or other places to hide. Be sure that you include rules before the games even begin. Stress that no ice should be inside the snowballs, and to not throw snowballs to hurt anybody. Let them know that any child who throws with force or intentions to hurt will be kicked out of the game. Play the snow war like tag. Once hit, the player is out. The team with the most players left is the winner. Finish off the game with plenty of hot chocolate and some time by the fire or warm heat.
Slide down some hills with sleds. Have the children bring sleds to have some free time to just enjoy drifting through the snow. You can also turn this free time into a relay race. Have each player on a team slide down. The team to finish first wins. Be sure that all paths are clear of debris, trees, plants and anything else that the children could possibly crash into and get hurt.
Put in some time at the ice rink. Take some children, ice skates and some creative moves to the ice. Play some music, let the skaters skate awhile, and then have them come to an abrupt stop once the music turns off. Skaters who are still moving must leave the ice. Play the Hokey-Pokey on ice. This is sure to bring some laughter. Be sure that the children are somewhat experienced on the ice for these games. These games may not be safe for beginners.
