How to Play Tree Tag

Tree tag is a fun variation on the classic children's game freeze tag. Playing this game requires one to be not only quick, but flexible and nimble as well. This is a fun game to play outside or even in the pool on hot summer days.

Instructions

    • 1

Select a person to be "it." The person who is "it" chases the others around and tries to tag them. Anytime someone gets tagged, he must stop and stand with his legs as far apart as possible, creating a bridge, until he is unfrozen.

    • 2

Pick an object to serve as base. (If you want to make the game more complicated, you can skip having a base.) Establish rules about how long players can stay on base and whether or not the person who is "it" can guard base by standing next to a runner until she takes her hands off base.

    • 3

Have whoever is "it" count to 20 to give everyone else a chance to scatter. Players can run far away or just a little way away to make things more challenging.

    • 4

"It" freezes as many people as possible. Once frozen, a player can be unfrozen by someone crawling through his legs; this makes the game more challenging than traditional tag because it takes longer to unfreeze someone. "It" should watch for these rescues so he can refreeze those players.

    • 5

Change the person who is "it" once someone has been frozen three times. When this change occurs it should be announced as loudly as possible so the new "it' cannot sneak up on other players while they are unaware.
