How to Play Old Maid With Playing Cards

As a favorite game for children, you can play Old Maid using a special pack of cards where the "old maid" is decorated or unique, or you can play with a standard pack of cards. Either way, the game offers a fun lesson for children on matching and numbers.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Shuffle cards and remove all Queens except one that will serve as the "old maid." Deal all cards clockwise to two players or more.

    • 2

Match two of a kind, such as two Jacks in your hand of cards, just as the other players do. Lay pairs face up for all players to see.

    • 3

Starting with the dealer, each player takes turns to allow the player to his left to pick a card without seeing it. The picker adds it to his hand and makes another pair if possible. These turns continue until players get rid of all their cards.

    • 4

A player left holding the odd Queen is crowned the "Old Maid" and loses the game.
