How to Play Sardines

Children's games, like Hide and Seek, generally only have a few rules to keep them streamlined and easy to pick up. Many of them have a great number of variants, however, which can serve to make them more interesting for children already well acquainted with the basics. Sardines is a variant of Hide and Seek that doesn't end until every seeker has found the hiding place.

Instructions

    • 1

Assign a player to be "It" for the first round of the game. If you don't have any volunteers, determine via a coin flip, a few rounds of 'paper, rock, scissors,' or a dice roll.

    • 2

Instruct the player who is "It" to find a location in which to hide; this location should be large enough for multiple players to hide in, though some of the fun of the game is in squeezing into a tight location together.

    • 3

Close your eyes and count to 100 out loud, along with the rest of the players.

    • 4

Split up your group and search for the hiding player within the surrounding area.

    • 5

Join the hiding player in his hiding place once you've found him. Be as quiet and quick as you can and try to hide completely from the view of other players, if you can; the better you can hide together, as a group, the more fun the wait for the remaining players will be.

    • 6

Assign whomever is last to find the hiding place to be "It" for the next round of the game.
