How to Play Chutes and Ladders

A classic Milton Bradley game, Chutes and Ladders is an easy game to enjoy with your younger children. No reading is required to play, but the game teaches kids to recognize numbers and count up to 100. Rules are simple enough for children as young as three and the recommended age range for this game is three to six.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose your playing piece and spin the dial to see who goes first. The player with the highest number on the wheel plays first. Place each person's player just left of square number one.

    • 2

Spin the dial and move the corresponding number of squares. Each player gets one spin a turn.

    • 3

Continue playing Chutes and Ladders in turns. When you land on a square with a picture of the bottom of a ladder, move up the ladder to the square where the ladder ends. When you land on a square with a picture of a chute, move down the chute to the square where the chute ends.

    • 4

Count squares through which ladders and chutes pass as regular squares. Only go up or down if you land on a square where the chute or ladder starts or ends.

    • 5

Keep playing until a player reaches square 100 either by an exact dial spin or by the ladder leading from square 80. The first player to reach square 100 wins the game.
