Making Your Own Face-Painting Stencils

Face paints are fun for kids. Making your own stencils lets you explore your creativity and produce new designs. Using stencils at a party helps you paint each child more quickly than you could if you created each design individually. You can use a variety of materials to make a stencil, but acetate is a good choice because, unlike card, it bends to follow the shape of the face. Acetate is also transparent, letting you see through it, which makes painting easier.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw your design on a piece of card. Once you're happy with it, go over the edges with a marker pen so the lines are easy to see. Adjust the size of the design depending on whether you̵7;ll be using it on adults or children. Simple shapes work best and are easier to cut out.

    • 2

Place the card onto a surface that̵7;s suitable for cutting and attach it firmly into place.

    • 3

Place a sheet of acetate on top of the card and fix it into place by taping it at each side. Make sure you can see the design underneath clearly.

    • 4

Cut around the design to create shaped holes in the acetate. Be careful to keep the knife away from your fingers. Once you̵7;ve cut the holes, make sure the edges are smooth as any jagged areas will affect the look of the end product and could scratch the face of the person whose face you are painting.
