Paper Games
Create a game of bingo using words from the sport you are watching. For football, fill the bingo card with words like quarterback, running back, football, helmet, touchdown and field goal. For basketball, use words like forward, goal, basketball, timeout and 3-point. Call out the words and have the guests mark their card. The first player to bingo wins a prize. Another idea is to write the word football or basketball at the top of a sheet of paper. The player who can come up with the most words in two minutes using only the letters in the word wins the game.
Contests
Set up a basketball goal outside and have a contest to see who can make the most baskets in five minutes. Write down each player̵7;s name and keep score each time he makes a goal. The player who scores the most wins the game. Alternatively, hang a hula-hoop from a tree and have the guests toss a football through the hoop. The player who scores the most wins the game. Another idea is to place a laundry basket indoors and mark a line about 15 feet from the basket. Have the guests try to toss a basketball or football into the basket to earn points. The player with the most points wins the game.
Trivia
Make up a trivia about the professional players of each team before the game starts. At halftime, give each player a sheet of paper. Call out the questions and have players write down their answers. Award one point for each correct answer. Ask questions for basketball like ̶0;Which player is the tallest out of both teams?̶1; and ̶0;Which player has scored the most points?̶1; For football ask questions, such as ̶0;What are the teams̵7; mascots?̶1; ̶0;Which team called the first timeout?̶1; and ̶0;Which player scored the first touchdown?̶1; The player who has the most points at the end of the game wins.
Passing Games
Have your guests sit in a circle and hand one player a football. Play music and tell the players to pass the ball around the circle. When the music stops, the player holding the ball is out of the game. The last player remaining wins the game. Alternatively, play with a basketball. Another idea is an outdoor passing game. Ask each player to select a partner and give each team a football or basketball. The team who can pass the ball the farthest distance without dropping it wins the game.
