Determine Your Age Group
Scavenger hunts are enjoyed by all ages with adventures ranging from fairly easy -- in and around the house -- to leading adults around the city on much more difficult quests. Keep quests short and simple when dealing with younger children. Also keep safety in mind when setting up your hunt. As a general rule, if the participants are under 13 years old, it is best to keep the hunt confined to a home or yard.
Create Your Clues
Keeping with the Indiana Jones theme, provide your hunters with pieces of a map or clues written on ragged paper. Depending on your creativity and knowledge of the movies, you can cue up the DVD so Indy can provide tips and clues from dialogue in the movies. Each clue ideally leads to the next. For example, tell young children directly where to go, but require adults to solve a puzzle to determine the next location. The older the participants, the more difficult the clues can be -- with pitfalls and challenges like fake snakes or trick devices along the way.
Include Thematic Props
Since this hunt is based on Indiana Jones, the treasure for your quest should be appropriate, such as a historic idol similar to the opening scene in "Raiders of the Lost Ark." Another idea would be to have the hunters find pieces of Indiana's outfit, such as his hat, whip and fake gun. For the younger crowd, pictures could be used instead, and play the theme song while they hunt.
Prizes
All of the clues will ultimately lead to the final location where the treasure awaits. Tie in the movie franchise with the prizes you choose to distribute. This ranges from toys and costumes for the kids to DVDs or movie soundtracks for adults. This will help Indy fans get into the spirit for your event.
