80's Activities for Teenagers

The 1980s were a decade filled with scrunchies, tight spandex and big hair. When planning an '80s party or get-together for teenagers, prepare entertaining activities to keep them involved in the party. Since many teens may think they are "too old," to play games or participate in activities, award activity winners with gift cards or prizes to encourage them to play along.
  1. Contests

    • Ask guests to come dressed in their best '80s costume. Have a costume contest and award prizes for the best, funniest and most creative costumes. Have a box of 80's clothes available for guests that do not come dressed but would like to dress up. Items to include in the '80s box are tight spandex, wigs, off-the-shoulder shirts, parachute pants and cuffed jeans. After the costume contest, have an '80s dance contest with songs from the "Footloose" and "Dirty Dancing" soundtracks. Award a prize to the best male and female dancers.

    Trivia

    • See how much the teens know about the '80s by hosting a trivia. Print several copies of questions about the '80s music and television shows and hand one to each teen. The first teen to finish the trivia with all the correct answers wins the game. If no one can answer all the questions correctly, the person who answers the most correctly in three minutes wins the game. For another '80s trivia games, the teens can play board games like "I Love the '80s Board Game" or "Trivial Pursuit: Totally '80s."

    Funny Games

    • For a funny game, create an '80s costume relay race. Mark a starting line and finish line 25 feet apart. Divide the teens into two teams. Give each team a large neon shirt, spandex shorts, lace gloves, big sunglasses and a "poufy" hair wig. When you say "Race," the first two players in each team line must put on the costume, race to the finish line and race back to hand the outfit to the next player in line. Each player must put on the outfit, race to the line and back. The first team to finish the race and yell "We are totally '80s" wins the race. If you have enough '80s clothes, have everyone race individually. Make it difficult by having them run the course backwards or skip the entire time.

    Other Activities

    • Make your own '80s bingo game for the teenagers to play. Cut neon dots out of felt for the teens to use as bingo markers. Write '80s-themed words, such as leg warmers, big hair, parachute pants, candy necklaces, neon earrings, Weird Science, the robot, oversized jackets and Converse high tops, in each bingo square. Write the same words on small slips of paper and call out the words one at a time. The first player to get bingo and yell "I love the '80s" wins the game. For another activity, have a lip-synch contest. Each teen must select an '80s song. Have them put on their best lip-synch performance. Award prizes to the best, most creative and funniest performances.
