How to Build a Limbo Pole

The "limbo" is believed to have originated as part of a ritual performed during wakes in Trinidad around the mid to late 19th century. Over the years, the limbo has made its way into the global consciousness as a favorite party game that requires minimal equipment and setup. The most important piece of equipment is by far the pole. In fact, you can do the limbo with just a pole and a few friends. Light wooden dowels make the perfect material to build a limbo pole with minimum effort.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Wrap masking tape around one end of the wooden dowel.

    • 2

Wrap the masking tape around the body of the wooden dowel in a "candy cane" pattern that leaves gaps between the various sections of tape. Continue to wrap until you reach the opposite end.

    • 3

Lay the newspaper on a large flat surface such as the driveway or patio.

    • 4

Spray the wooden dowel with the spray paint of your choice. Since most dowels are light colors, red works especially well for a candy-like effect.

    • 5

Allow the dowel to dry and remove the masking tape.
