How to Use the Newspaper for Scavenger Hunts

Scavenger hunts can be fun group events, as your party splits into teams that drive around your city or town, finding items on a list you create for the game. You can start the fun by handing out copies of the day's newspaper to add an air of mystery and suspense to the merriment.

Instructions

    • 1

Invite guests to your scavenger hunt party. Indicate that each team will need at least one cell phone with a camera or a digital camera.

    • 2

Get enough copies of the same edition of the newspaper so that each team has one.

    • 3

Peruse the newspaper and pick out photographs of area landmarks or names of well-known people from your community.

    • 4

Make a list of the required photographs and people that the teams need to find. Teams can find photographs by taking pictures of the same area. They can find people by taking pictures of the places where the news events that mention them took place. Teams can take pictures on phones or digital cameras.

    • 5

Set a time limit for the hunt to take place. If you live in a large city, you may want to allow three or four hours for the hunt, depending on the number of items and people that are on the list.

    • 6

Gather the group around and compare photos at the end of the night. Prizes like movie passes (or "prizes" like a pink plastic flamingo set) can add hilarity to the conclusion of the hunt.
