Yoda Camp Games

Perhaps no other character in the Star Wars universe is more revered than the Jedi Master Yoda. This little green sage has for decades dazzled the imaginations of young and old Star Wars fans alike. Planning camp games around this character is a great way for counselors and campers to bond. To keep them interesting, games should highlight particular Jedi powers and situations from the movies.
  1. Dueling

    • Dueling is perhaps the most obvious sort of game centered on the Yoda theme. Buy a Yoda mask or pair of green ears from your local costume or joke shop. Have one camper don the Yoda costume, complete with brown Jedi robe. The other player should dress in a black robe as a Sith Lord. Using soft flexible sticks, such as stretchy balloons, as lightsabers, players should try to beat each other in a duel. If one players hits the other's arm, that player should put her arm behind her back. If he hits a leg, the player should hop on one foot. If he mortally wounds his opponent, the round is over.

    Order 66

    • Who can forget that moment in "Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith" when the self-proclaimed Emperor Palpatine issues Order 66, which requires all Clone Troopers to assassinate their Jedi leaders? Assign half the group to be Clone Troopers and half the group to be Jedi. The Clone Troopers form a wide circle around the Jedi and try to hit them with rubber balls, which represents blaster fire. The Jedi can defend themselves using their lightsabers. Lightsabers are created by asking each camper to clasp his hands together as one would when playing volleyball. Any ball that hits a Jedi's lightsaber is "deflected." Any other hit is a kill, and the hit Jedi must sit out.

    Force Mind-Reading

    • Start with a counselor and one camper who know the mind-reading trick. With the counselor dressed as Yoda, his Padawan (Jedi pupil), the camper will use the force to read Yoda's mind by trying to guess the object he is thinking about. Yoda asks the camper, "Am I thinking about the shed?", "Am I thinking about that rock" and similar questions until the camper gets it right. Little does the audience know, but the Padawan is waiting for Yoda to include a color in his question: "Is it the blue car?" When Yoda includes a color in his question, the very next object he asks out is the right answer. Campers must try to discover the secret of The Force Mind-Reading trick. Once one camper thinks she gets it, she can be the next Padawan. This is one way of playing the game. There are variations on this game that use another means of knowing which object Yoda has picked out.

    Jedi Purge

    • The object of this game is for all the Jedi to make it from one end zone to another without being touched by Darth Vader. If a Jedi is touched, he must sit down where he was caught. Among the Jedi is a camper designated as Yoda. Yoda has the power to bring Jedi back from the dead. If Yoda touches a fallen Jedi, that Jedi may rejoin the game. But if Yoda is caught, the Jedi will not be able to come back. See how long the Jedi can last before Darth Vader wipes them out.
