Instructions for Crazy Man's Handcuffs

The Crazy Man's Handcuffs trick is one of the most popular magic tricks, and it still manages to deceive and amaze audiences the world over. The trick involves magically disconnecting two interlocked rubber bands. When the trick is performed correctly, the rubber bands appear to have separated from melting into one another, rather than by a choreographed movement of the fingers. This trick will take practice to perform accurately.

Instructions

    • 1

Place two rubber bands flat on the table.

    • 2

Insert the left thumb and forefinger into one of the rubber bands. Stretch your fingers out inside the rubber band so it is taut around your fingers.

    • 3

Insert the right forefinger into the second rubber band. Pick up the second rubber band and dangle it behind the first rubber band, in between the left forefinger and thumb.

    • 4

Pull the free end of the second rubber band with your left thumb.

    • 5

Pull the second rubber band past the first one to show that both rubber bands are now interlocked and there is no way to pull them apart without releasing your fingers from each rubber band.

    • 6

Face the back of the right hand toward the audience.

    • 7

Stretch the rubber bands out toward your wrist. Quickly, slip the right-middle finger into the bottom part of the right rubber band and release your thumb. This step is done so quickly that the audience doesn't notice you have inserted one finger and removed another.

    • 8

Pull the rubber bands apart and show the audience that they are no longer interlocked. The rubber bands should have appeared to have magically disconnected from each other.
