How to Hold Down a Homemade Slip & Slide

A Slip and Slide is a classic summer time water amusement. While you could purchase one, you can easily make your own at home. Once you have all the slippery plastic surface laid out and a hose to keep the surface wet, you will need to figure out how to fasten it down at each end. If you don't secure it, the plastic will slide along with you. You can solve that problem by driving plastic tent stakes into the ends at each corner. Make sure that the stakes are seated slightly below the ground surface.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Fold the plastic over four times at each end of the homemade Slip and Slide. Make the folds approximately 3-inches wide.

    • 2

Drive a stake approximately 1-inch from each corner of one end of the plastic surface on your homemade Slip and Slide through the plastic and into the ground with a mallet. Pound the stake slightly below the surface of the ground so that it won't stick up and scrape someone.

    • 3

Pull the plastic surface of the slip and slide tight at the opposite end that you staked in Step 2. Repeat Step 1 and drive a stake through the plastic at each corner as you did in Step 2. Make sure that the Slip and Slide is tight as you drive the final stake into the ground in the last corner.
