Ideas for Pumpkin Carving Games

Pumpkin carving is a good activity for almost any type of party during the fall months of the year. Come up with different ideas to create pumpkin carving games for your guests. Just make sure that your guests are old enough to use sharp knives, or buy safe pumpkin carving tools and allow one adult for each team of players.
  1. Movie Theme

    • Have the participants use their pumpkins to create a movie theme. They can carve out movie symbols, such as the one for Batman. Choose guests to either work individually or as part of a team. The pumpkins can then be judged by other guests. To make the carving game a little more difficult, set a time limit for the carving.

    Animals

    • Have guests create animals using carved pumpkins. Have a variety of pumpkin sizes for different body parts of the animal. You may want to have one animal pumpkin carving done to give people an idea of what they can do. Fish, cats and dogs are only a few of the choices. Offer prizes for the best, the most creative and the biggest.

    Haunted Houses

    • If your party is at Halloween time have people carve a haunted house scene on the front of their pumpkins. Make sure to carve out the insides of the pumpkin so that when the contest is over you can put lit candles inside to highlight the designs.

    Jack-o-Lanterns

    • Do not underestimate the fun that party guests can have by hosting a traditional pumpkin carving contest. Use different types of pumpkins, such as white and orange, as well as different sizes. Give guests very few directions and allow their imaginations to run wild. Have some stencils handy for those who are not as artistic. Give away prizes for the funniest, scariest and silliest. As part of the game you can prepare surveys before the party so that people can judge the jack-o-lanterns for the awards.
