Bunco Theme Ideas

Incorporate a theme into your next Bunco night to add to the entertainment. Bunco is a fast-paced dice game played by a large group of people. Typically, Bunco clubs meet once or twice a month at different houses where the hostess of the house supplies the food and drinks. Skip the boring routine of regular food and drinks and choose to do something different by basing your food, drinks and prizes around a theme.
  1. Mexican Fiesta

    • Mix up the margaritas and salsa to throw a Mexican fiesta Bunco party. Brighten up the decor by bringing in fake parrots, sombreros, bright tablecloths and streamers in red, green and white to welcome guests to your casa. Set up tables with chips and salsa in the center for guests to munch on while playing, and offer tacos and burritos for a more filling meal. Bring in fried ice cream for dessert. Pass around a sombrero for the Bunco leader to wear.

    Flashback

    • Bring back the '80s during your Bunco night and encourage everyone to dress in era-appropriate attire. The '80s were a time of neon colors, big hair and dance music. Hang streamers in bright pink, electric blue and neon green around the room and from the ceiling. Print out pictures of music artists from the '80s such as Madonna, Debbie Gibson and Prince, and write interesting facts on the back of the pictures to place on the tables along with brightly colored tablecloths. Serve a variety of cocktails and finger foods and play music from the '80s. Give the Bunco leader a bottle of hair spray to carry around to represent the big hair days of the '80s.

    Luau Theme

    • Pretend you are on an island somewhere tropical with your best buddies while playing Bunco. Shower guests with leis when they enter your home and a fruity drink to start the luau Bunco party. Have a variety of fresh fruit cut up with different types of fruit dip, coconut shrimp and light sandwiches to serve. Mix up different cocktails and serve guests their drink with a mini umbrella on the side. Purchase bright tablecloths, faux palm trees and a faux parrot to place around the room. The Bunco leader can wear a large, brightly colored flower in her hair.

    Vegas Night

    • Gamble the night away Bunco style with a Las Vegas theme. Place tablecloths in red, black and white around the room. Set up a table for food with various props threaded through, such as a deck of cards, poker chips and fake tickets to a show. Create a "Welcome to Las Vegas" sign using cardboard and markers to hang in the Bunco room. Place pink flamingos around the room, and hang fuzzy dice from random spots around the area. The food area can contain simple finger foods and desserts. Give the Bunco leader a poker chip or the fuzzy dice to carry around with her.
