Clever Halloween Games

Make your Halloween party a night to remember by playing clever games. The best Halloween games are slightly scary, mildly disgusting and a lot of fun at the same time. Make sure they're easy or challenging enough for the age range of your attendees. Keep cleanup supplies on hand for the messy games.
  1. Marco Polo Monster

    • Marco Polo Monster is similar to the classic Marco Polo game. Gather the group in a yard or confined area. Choose one person to be "it," and give him a monster mask to wear. The mask can be a store-bought plastic mask or simply a brown paper bag with a monster face drawn on it. Make sure "the monster" can't see through the mask. Have him walk slowly through the yard with his hands in front of him. He must find and tag someone else in the group, who will then become "it" and wear the monster mask. When the monster moans or growls, the rest of the group must make the same noise to reveal their whereabouts.

    Scary Story Game

    • Set the mood for this game by gathering everyone in a circle and dimming the lights. Give each person five index cards. Tell them to write a scary sentence beginning with the word "Then" on each index card. For example, "Then they heard footsteps coming down the stairs." Collect everyone's cards and shuffle them. Pick one person to start the scary story. After one minute, give the person a random index card. The person must read it and incorporate the sentence into the story somehow. The results are often more humorous than scary.

    Spider Web Toss

    • Have everyone stand in a circle and to create a human web. Give one person a ball of white yarn or cord. Designate one person to hold on to the free end and throw the ball to someone else. That person must hold on to the yarn but throw the ball to another person. After a few minutes, a web will form. Challenge the group to make a web that will hold a pumpkin in the center. See how many pumpkins it takes to break the web.

    Gutsy Prizes

    • Fill a large, plastic bin with slimy food items, such as cooked spaghetti and gelatin. Fill plastic bags with treats, including candy, toys, money or gift cards. Turn off the lights and allow participants take turns digging through the "guts" to find the prizes.

    Balloon Sweep

    • Give each participant a balloon and a broom. Have each person blow up the balloon and attach it to his ankle with a piece of ribbon. The object of the game is for people to pop others' balloons with their brooms while protecting their own balloons from getting popped. Make sure people know that they can't use anything but the broom to pop a balloon. The last person with an intact balloon wins a prize.
