Indoor Games for High Tea

Though "high tea" typically refers to dinner and not tea time in English culture, you can still host a high tea party without getting caught up in semantics. For your high tea party, prepare as many activities as well as food and beverages to keep your guests happy. Most tea party games take place around the tea table and involve breaking the ice among your guests.
  1. Tea Time T's

    • After everyone has sat down, give each of them a piece of paper and a writing utensil. Tell the guests they all have to write down as many words that start with the letter "T" before the timer, set to two minutes, stops. Every "T" word gives a player one point. Players who wrote down words that contained t-e-a in a string get one extra point per word. Examples of this include "tear" or "team." The person with the most points wins.

    Alphabet Conversation

    • Hand pieces of paper to each guest and ask them to write down a topic of conversation. Examples include "movies" and "gardening." Fold these and put them in a bowl. In a separate bowl, place 26 slips of paper with each letter of the alphabet written on them. When ready, a random player picks out both a topic and a letter. She has to start the conversation on that topic using the letter to start her sentence. For example, if she pulled "fashion" and the letter "Y" she could say "You'd look good in a pair of Jimmy Choo's." The person sitting to her right then has to respond starting with the letter "Z." This continues around the circle until you return to the letter "Y." Play for as many rounds as you like.

    Proper at the Tea Table

    • Gather everyone around the tea table. Pick one player out of the group to play the role of the rambunctious guest. During the game, all the guests have to remain completely quiet as this player makes a complete fool of herself. The rambunctious guest can tell jokes, do physical tricks or anything to make the players laugh; all, that is but touch them. Anyone who laughs or makes any noise leaves the table. The last player remaining wins the game and becomes the new rambunctious guest.

    Set the Tea Table

    • Give the guests a break from eating to get up and move. Divide the players into two teams. Position a small table about 10 feet away from the tea table. Place five tea cups, five saucers, five sets of silverware and a tea pot on this small table. The first team to go has to place all of these items on the table in their appropriate spots. If anything is set incorrectly on the tea table, the teams have to start over. Time them as they do this. The second team also has a turn. The fastest team to correctly set the tea table wins the game.
