Strange Charades Ideas

Charades is a game where participants have to act out a word, a phrase or a title of a book or movie, without speaking, as the other participants attempt to guess the complete phrase or word. The object of Charades is to guess the acted-out phrase as quickly as possible.
  1. No Arms

    • An interesting approach to the game of Charades could include a new rule wherein participants cannot use their arms as a part of their pantomimed hints. The addition of this rule would make the game more difficult for participants, especially novice participants, because they'd have to get creative using their torso, face and legs.

    Blindfolded

    • You can add another challenge to the game of Charades by making the person acting out the clues wear a blindfold. As with blindfolded Pictionary, blindfolded Charades often results in hilarity. The blindfolded player will not be able to see the looks on the other players' faces so they can play uninhibitedly. If you're going to have a blindfolded player, however, be sure to move any furniture to make a large enough playing area to ensure that no one will get hurt.

    Reverse Charades

    • A very strange Charades game involves the viewers -- not the person whose turn it is -- knowing the phrase or clue while the player does not. The player would be blindfolded as the rest of his team moves his body to act out the clue. For example, the viewers could contort the player's body into the appearance of a monkey -- complete with head scratching and tick picking -- to mime the word "monkey." The turn ends when the blindfolded individual discovers the clue.

    Relay Charades

    • If you have a large group of players, you can create a game of relay Charades. Divide the group into two or three teams and have them spread out. Decide on a theme, such as fast food or superheroes. Each team competes against the others by attempting to guess all of the items on the list first. One person is a moderator, who assigns the clues, and one member of each team is selected to pantomime first. After a team's player successfully acts out a clue, a second player approaches the moderator to receive the next clue. No player acts out a clue twice unless everyone else on the team has had a turn. The game concludes when a team finishes the list.
