Golden Birthday Games

When people turn the same age as the day they were born, they celebrate their Golden Birthday. For example, if a person were born on January 28, 1978, her Golden Birthday would be during the year she turned 28. A Golden Birthday only happens once in a lifetime, from ages 1 to 31. Games to play for a Golden Birthday should be modified for age appropriateness.
  1. Off Limits

    • Party beads are inexpensive and double as party favors.

The Off Limits game is played throughout the entire party. For a Golden Birthday, words like "gold," "treasure," "loot" and "prize" should be off limits. The host informs guests how to play upon arrival and hands them necklaces made of golden-colored plastic beads. Each time a guest says one of the off limits words, he must give one of his necklaces to the person who caught him. The guest with the most necklaces by the end of the party wins.

    The Golden Guest Award

    • Use a gold pen, stickers or cutouts for the Golden Guest number.

One game that to play without telling guests is the Gold Guest Award. Write numbers from one to the Golden Birthday number on name tags or index cards. The birthday person hands each guest a number as she arrives. For example, the third person to arrive receives the number three. The person who receives the golden number wins the Golden Guest Award. The award should be interactive, such as a plastic golden crown for the guest to wear and first dibs (after the birthday person) on food and activities. Alternately, the Golden Guest acts as the birthday person's helper throughout the party.

    Treasure Hunt for Gold

    • Chocolate gold coins look real and make a delicious party treat.

A Golden Birthday should be full of gold. Create a treasure hunt for guests by hiding plastic or chocolate gold coins throughout the party venue before guests arrive. The host hands out the first clue to the players. Each hidden coin must have directions to help players find the next clue. Guests may choose to form groups or search for treasure independently. The person or group who finds the most gold coins wins a prize.

    Golden Crafts

    • Guests can make gold-beaded bracelets for a Golden Birthday keepsake.

Hosts set up an area for guests to use to make golden crafts. Gold paint, glitter, stickers and tissue paper turn any craft into golden treasure. Project ideas include picture frames, scrapbook pages, treasure chests and flowerpots. Crafts should be made early in the party to allow glue and paint time to dry so guests may take their treasures home.

    The Golden Gift

    • If all presents look uniform, they will be harder to differentiate.

Ask guests to wrap presents in gold wrapping paper, boxes or gift bags to make them unidentifiable. When they arrive, direct them to a gift table in a separate room from the party so they may place their gifts on a table anonymously. Count each gift as the birthday person opens them. When the Golden Birthday number present is chosen, the guest who brought it wins a prize.
