Games for Booths

Booth games are traditional attractions at carnivals and fairs. Although the variations are endless, there are several carnival game booth staples, such as throwing games, sports games, chance games and contests. These games are highly engaging, and players are usually rewarded with a small prize. Modify any generic game to be event specific; for example, a standard bean bag toss game can be easily themed by decorating the goals and the bean bags.
  1. Throwing Games

    • There are many types of throwing games, and each game has countless variations. Common throwing games for booths include balloon darts, bean bag throws and ring tosses. These games are all easy to build.

Create a balloon dart game by taping or pinning the tied ends of inflated balloons of various sizes to a large cork board. Give players darts to throw at the balloons. Point values should be assigned to different colors so the points can be easily calculated after each turn.

Targets for bean bag throws can be easily created from cardboard. Cut the shape of the target and various holes of different sizes and point values. Secure a small bag to collect the bean bags and to make scoring easy and argument-free.

Ring tosses require small rings to throw over objects. Ring toss variations require players to throw rings over milk bottles, stuffed animals or moving targets.

    Sports Games

    • Sports-themed booth games are fun and addictive. They can also be highly popular and profitable, as skilled athletes show off their skills and compete for prizes. Sports-themed games for booths can include bowling, football toss, baseball toss, basketball and shooting gallery games.

Bowling and basketball games are easily set up in booths. A bowling alley can be designated with string or strips of colored paper, with pins set up at one end. Each pin could have a point value written on the bottom for easy scoring. Basketball hoops can be nailed to backboards and placed along the backside of the booth.

    Chance Games

    • Chance games give players the opportunity to earn big prizes with little work, but the odds are never high. These games are suitable for young children who lack the skills needed to play other, more challenging games.

A common chance game is set up by labeling the bottom of several rubber ducks and placing them in a shallow plastic pool filled with water. Players remove a duck, check the number on the bottom, and are given a prize that corresponds with that number. The most common number is assigned a less valuable prize than the rarest number.

Another chance game requires a locked chest and a pile of keys. Only one or two keys must fit the lock; the rest cannot work. Players select a key and try to open the chest. If it opens, they claim the prize inside. If it doesn't, they may be given a consolation prize or nothing at all.

    Other

    • Other games, such as dancing or talent contests, quizzes, toy car races and musical chairs, can also be played in booths. Booths can also be set up for board games or video games. Other activities, such as face painting or raffles, can be used in booths also.
