Directions & Scoring for Ladder Ball

When it comes to time outside, many people prefer spending time together enjoying a great game. One of today's hottest party games is ladder ball (also known as ladder toss). Because of its simple gameplay and the ease of making or purchasing a set, ladder ball is good fun for the whole family. Before beginning a game, however, it's best to review the rules and lay of a proper court.

Instructions

    • 1

Set your ladders 15- to 21-feet apart, depending on the age and skill level of players. Position one player from each team at each ladder.

    • 2

Give each player three "bolos" (a length of rope with a ball at each end).

    • 3

Alternate turns, throwing bolos toward the ladder, aiming for a rung. Wrapping the bolo around the top rung is worth 3 points, the center rung is worth 2, and the bottom rung is worth 1 point.

    • 4

Score your round by adding each player's throws, then subtracting the throws of the player who scored the least from the player who scored the most. For example, if Player One threw 5 points while Player Two threw 3, Player 1 scores 2 points for his team. Should both teams throw for an equal amount of points, the round is considered a "wash" and neither team is awarded points.

    • 5

Continue to score points until one team reaches 21 points.
