How to Change Your Name Into a Pirate Name

Pirates have become a popular theme for Halloween costumes, birthday parties and tours along the coast in recent years, boosted in part by the box office success of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" series of films. Not everyone can be a Captain Jack Sparrow, but with some creativity and research, it's possible to transform anyone's name into a pirate name for a little fun.

Instructions

    • 1

Grab a piece of paper and make a list of some of your favorite things. Write down your favorite color, animal and nickname. Include a list of your favorite adjectives, or adjectives that describe your personality, such as "Handsome" or "Scary."

    • 2

Look up medieval surnames to combine with your current name. Pick up a book by William Shakespeare or Geoffrey Chaucer for examples of character names. Remember that pirates once sailed the globe and included Asian, French and Spanish buccaneers with names specific to their countries of origin. Include your favorite surnames on your list.

    • 3

Write down your name, and combine it with some of the words you've written down as your favorites. Try out different combinations until you have some pirate-worthy names, like Harry The Scary Cruikshank. Read about pirate history, and use real-life pirate examples as inspiration, such as Blackbeard, Captain William Kidd or Barbarossa.

Go online and use a name generator if you're having trouble coming up with your own pirate name. Some websites, such as Gangstaname.com, PirateName.net and Generator.name/Pirate, allow you to input your real name to receive a pirate-worthy name for free.
