Halloween Pumpkin Games

Jack-o-lanterns are traditional for Halloween decorations and activities. These large orange gourds come in a variety of sizes and are perfect for creating games to play. Pumpkins are available at grocery stores and at pumpkin patches every fall. When hosting a Halloween party or festival, you can plan pumpkin games that everyone can enjoy. Pumpkin-themed prizes for game winners can encourage your party guests to play along.
  1. Pumpkin Race

    • Give each player a miniature pumpkin and a plastic beach pail shovel. Have everyone line up side-by-side on a starting line. Mark another line about 20 feet from the starting line. When you say, "Go," they must race to the other line and back to the starting line with the pumpkin in the shovel. If a player drops the pumpkin, she must place it back on the shovel before continuing the race. The first player to make it back to the starting line wins the game. For a variation, divide the players into teams and make turn the game into a relay race.

    Pass the Miniature Pumpkin

    • Divide all the players into teams have each team stand in a single file line. You can have as many teams as you want, but all teams need to have the same number of players. Give the first player in each line a miniature pumpkin. When you say, "Pass that pumpkin," the first player in each team line must place the pumpkin between his neck and chin. The players have to pass the pumpkins down the team lines using only their necks and chins. If a player drops the pumpkin, the pumpkin must start over at the beginning of the line. The first team to get the pumpkin all the way down their team line wins the game.

    Pumpkin Toss

    • Scatter five buckets (large enough to fit small pumpkins in) on the ground. Mark a standing line using tape or rope about 10 feet from the pumpkins. Players must stand at the line and try to toss pumpkins into the buckets. For another toss game, give the same size pumpkins to all players and have them toss the pumpkins from the same line. The player who tosses the pumpkin the farthest distance wins the game.

    Pumpkin Seed Guess

    • Place a small, medium and large pumpkin on a table. Give everyone a slip of paper and a pen. Tell each player to write his name on the slip of paper and write down how many seeds he thinks are in each pumpkin. After you collect of the slips of paper, cut the pumpkins open and count the seeds in each one. Award prizes to the players who guessed closest to the correct number of seeds.
