Second Birthday Games

When planning party games for your toddler's second birthday, the games need to be simple and easy. Non-competitive games are best, but you can play games that have a winner if you make sure that every child wins at some point in the game. With short attention spans, toddlers do best with games that have minimal instructions. Using a few inexpensive supplies, you can plan birthday games most toddlers will enjoy.
  1. Bubble Pop

    • Take the toddlers outside and blow several bubbles. Tell them to try to pop as many bubbles as they can. They can pop the bubbles by jumping on them, using their fingers or bodies. Award each child a bottle of bubbles with a wand as a prize.

    Follow the Leader

    • Allow the birthday child to start the game by being the leader. She must do an action, such as hop on both feet or rub her tummy, and all the party guests must do the same. Allow each child to be the leader for a couple of minutes. Award prizes to all the toddlers who participate in the game.

    Shredded Prizes

    • Most children love digging for surprises. Fill a blowup or plastic pool with shredded paper. Add several party favors into the pool and mix well. Allow each child a chance to dig through the paper to find a couple of party favors. Place the favors in a party favor bag to take home as mementos of the party. If you do not have shredded paper, you can also use packing peanuts.

    Egg Crate Stomp

    • Save a bunch of Styrofoam egg crates (at least one per each child) to use for a stomping game. Open each egg crate and place it face down on the ground. Have each toddler stand in front of one crate. When you play music, the toddlers must stomp on the crate. When they music stops, they must walk around the egg crates. As the music starts again, they can find another egg crate to stomp and make some noise.

    Hot Potato

    • Give the birthday child a plush toy and have all the party guests sit in a circle. Play music and have the toddlers pass the toy around the circle. Each time the music stops, the player holding the toy wins a small prize. Make sure the children pass the toy so everyone has a chance to earn a toy before the game ends.
