Scavenger Hunt Directions

Play detective by searching specific areas for clues and objects when you participate in a scavenger hunt. These hunts are created to entertain children and adults for birthday parties, team-building activities and family gatherings. Not only do they get people off their feet and moving around, but scavenger hunts also help to break the ice and start socialization. Prior to the gathering, prepare the scavenger hunt directions to hand to each team. Children will benefit from simple, easy-to-follow directions. Adults, however, may enjoy a little more competition.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose the type of scavenger hunt you will be hosting. There are two different types of scavenger hunts: a timed point system or the first to finish. A point system consists of placing a time limit on the teams, such as two hours, and assigning points to each item found. Harder-to-find items will need a higher point value; easier items can be assigned less points.

    • 2

Create teams of people. Most teams will consists of two to three people. If the hunt is organized for a large family reunion or team-building exercise, larger teams of four or five people may be necessary.

    • 3

Print out a list of items for each team. If you are using the point system, print the value of each item on the sheet.

    • 4

Line up the hunters and explain the game to every team. Include rules, such as no cheating and being considerate of other teams.

    • 5

Set a timer, if needed, and release the teams to play the game.
