Tea Cup Games

You can't have a tea party without dainty china teacups. After using them to politely sip herbal tea during the meal, you can also use them as the centerpiece for several entertaining games. Whether you have a sedate assembly of matrons or a giddy group of girls, you can modify these games for loads of tea party fun.
  1. Teacup Toss

    • Play this game at tables. Each person steps three paces back from her empty teacup and then attempts to throw a coin into it. Then, each person takes another step back and tries tossing another coin in the teacup. Taking one final step back, they attempt the toss again. Repeat this activity with more difficult items, like a sugar cube and a tea bag. The person who has the most items in her teacup at the end wins.

    Teacup Surprise

    • Have everyone form a large circle and display four identical teacups, each with the saucer placed on top to conceal the contents. Two of the teacups have sugar cubes in them, but the other two contain tubes of lipstick. Play music and pass the teacups around the circle like a hot potato. When the music stops, the four players with the teacups remove the saucers. If a player gets lipstick, she has to apply it somewhere on her face. If a player gets the sugar cubes, she gets to put lipstick on someone else's face. The catch is that lipstick can't be applied to the same spot twice. Make sure you have a camera handy.

    Guess the Tea

    • This is a passive game appropriate for a formal tea or shower. Display several teacups with dry tea leaves inside. Behind each teacup, place a teapot with the brewed tea inside. Let guests taste and smell the tea and observe the leaves to guess what kind of tea it is. Have them write their answers on small pieces of paper, and put them in an empty teapot. After everyone has had a chance to guess, check the answer sheets and distribute prizes to the winners.

    Spoonful of Sugar Race

    • Divide into teams of four, and give each group a small bowl of sugar, one spoon and one teacup. Place the teacup on a table about 15 feet away. Team members take turns carrying a spoonful of sugar to their team's teacup. The team who fills its cup first wins round one. For round two, team members build a sugar cube tower on top of the team's filled cup. Whoever has the highest tower after two minutes wins.
