Valentine's Games to Play With Preschool Kids

Valentine's games provide an easy and active way to keep preschoolers busy while celebrating the holiday. With short attention spans, preschoolers need simple games that do not take a lot of effort or time. Award the children with Valentine's candy and stickers to keep them interested in playing the games.
  1. Lost Heart

    • Cut a heart out of red card stock paper and show the preschoolers. Have them leave the room while you hide the heart. Tell the children to come back in and look for the heart. The first player to find the heart wins a prize. For a quiet variation, tell the children if they find the heart they should not say anything. Instead, they should go sit down quietly in their chairs. After everyone sits, ask the first player who sat down where the heart is. If he is correct, award him a prize.

    Conversation Heart Target Toss

    • Draw a large target on a poster board and write point values in each ring. Place the target on the floor and mark a standing line about 10 feet from the target. Have the preschoolers line up at the standing line and give each one five conversation candy hearts. They must toss the candies onto the target to earn points. Keep record of each child's score; the player with the highest score wins the game.

    Heart Animal Match

    • Take red, pink and white construction paper and cut out several hearts. Cut several pictures of animals out of magazines (two of each animal) and glue one animal to each heart. Mix the hearts up and place one face down on each preschooler's desk. When you say, "Go," the children must flip over their pictures and start making the noises of the animal on their hearts. Then they must walk around the room making the animal noises until they finds their match. The first two players to find their animal heart match win the game and a prize. Keep playing until all the preschoolers find their match.

    Conversation Heart Sort

    • Give each preschooler a box of conversation hearts and have her sit at her desk. When you say, "Sort," the children must open their boxes of hearts and pour them on their desk. The first preschooler to sort the hearts into groups by color wins the game. For a harder game, have the preschoolers sort the conversation hearts by wording. Award a small prize to the winner of each game.
