Items to Find in a Scavenger Hunt

When you are organizing a scavenger hunt, there are many possibilities for items to include. While you are making your list, be sure to consider what can be found in the area of your hunt. Mix up some common items with specific harder-to-find things. Whatever you choose, focus on people enjoying the competition.
  1. Everyday Items

    • There are many everyday items that can be included in a scavenger hunt regardless of the location. When making your list, it is best to include items that are somewhat common, such as a bottle opener or lip balm, but not something that most people would have at any time, like a driver's license. Some everyday item suggestions include: plastic cutlery, baby wipes, something with a sport team logo on it, nail polish, a picture of a relative, hand lotion or a receipt. To make it more challenging, be very specific, for example, a receipt with a total over $50 or a cherry-flavored lip balm.

    Outdoor Items

    • If you're holding your scavenger outdoors, there are many outdoor items you can include on your list. Things like a leaf or pine cone, flowers or rocks are items in nature that can be found in most places. Depending on the location and weather where you are holding your scavenger hunt, other items to consider are seashells, snowballs or specific plants. You can make it a little more difficult by including items such as a garbage bag full of leaves or five rocks that look exactly the same.

    On the Town

    • If you are hosting your scavenger hunt while out in a public place like a bar or beach, add items that relate to the location. Some examples might be an item with a beer company logo on it, a takeout menu, a straw or a piece of driftwood. The larger the location is, the more items you can include. For example, if you are hosting your hunt on a busy main street with multiple businesses, restaurants and bars, you can include items with more than one part, such as five napkins with different logos printed on them.

    Interacting with People

    • Another type of item that can be included on your scavenger hunt list involves interacting with other people who may be present during your game. Some examples would include collecting a business card, a hair clip or bobby pin, a sock or a pen from someone you don't know. A modern twist would be to give each team a digital camera and ask them to collect pictures instead of items. Pictures to include on your list might be a couple kissing, a bartender or a blue car.
