Scary Games to Play Like Bloody Mary

To make a slumber party, birthday party or late night hang-out more thrilling, children commonly play scary games. Friends and family members looking for thrills can play games such as Bloody Mary, zombie tag, and many others that get the blood pumping and cause a few frightened screams. The fun and excitement of these games can last for hours, and make lasting memories for all those participating.
  1. Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board

    • To start the game Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board, one player lays down on the floor. Each of the other players places one hand slightly underneath the player on the floor. Once everyone is in place, the storyteller tells a story about the life and tragic death of the player who is lying down. After the story is finished all players begin to chant "light as a feather, stiff as a board." Simultaneously they will lift the player off the ground. This gives the illusion that ghosts or spirits are helping them lift the player.

    Nighttime Scavenger Hunt

    • Decorate the backyard with fake cobwebs, tombstones and other spooky items. Devise a set of clues that will help the group of players solve the murder mystery you have created. Use scary stories or riddles as clues to add to the frightening factor of the hunt. The players head out on the scavenger hunt armed with flashlights. Each clue will lead to the next object until the players reach the end -- the murdered person. Have one person act as the murdered person who pops up and scares the players as they get near the last destination.

    Zombie Tag

    • Zombie tag is very similar to regular tag. Appoint one person as "it." This person will chase the other participants and try to tag them. However, the "it" player should act like a zombie, moaning, making zombie faces and lurching with his arms extended. When another player is tagged, he will turn into a zombie, too. The game is over when each player has been tagged and everyone has turned into zombies.

There Are No Bears Out Tonight

    • Three or more players are needed to play There Are No Bears Out Tonight. It is best to play outside at night for a more frightening effect. One player is chosen to be the bear. The bear must hide while all others players close their eyes and count to 20. Once they have counted to 20, the players begin to run around in search of the bear while chanting "There are no bears out tonight, my daddy shot them all last night." The bear secretly comes out of hiding and tries to tag one of the searching players, who then becomes a bear as well. The game is over when everyone is tagged and turned into bears.
