Sports Birthday Games

If your child is a sport enthusiast, plan a sports-themed birthday party with exciting games for him to play. Games prevent boredom and keep the party guests active. Award the game winners with prizes, such as plastic water bottles, foam sport balls and whistles, to keep guests interested in playing the games. You can substitute most games with any type of sports ball to correspond with the exact theme of your party.
  1. Target Toss

    • Hang several hula-hoops from a tree or rope in the air at different levels. Write different point values on each one of the hula-hoops. Mark a starting line about 15 feet from the hoops (adjust the line according to the ages of the players) and have the players line up. Each player has to try to throw a football, tennis ball and baseball through the hoops. Record each player's score and the player with the most points wins the game. If you are planning a baseball-themed party, use all baseballs to throw through the hoops or for a soccer party, use all soccer balls.

    Foam Ball Tag

    • Place a bucket of foam balls outside in the backyard and mark off a large play area. Select one player to be "it," and have him stand by the bucket. When you say, "Go," the "it" player has to use the foam balls to throw at players to try to tag them. Any player hit with a foam ball is the new "it." For a hot summer day, fill the bucket of foam balls with water for added fun.

    Balloon Sports

    • Create two soccer goals using cardboard boxes and place one at each end of the playing area. Divide the players into two teams and have them play a game of soccer using a balloon. The first team to score five points wins the game. The players can also use balloons to play a game of volleyball, baseball and basketball. For volleyball, simply tie a rope between two trees or chairs to use as the net. For baseball, setup up bases and have the guests use their hands to hit the ball. To play balloon basketball, setup a basketball goal and make sure the balloon is small enough to fit through the hoop.

    Golf Game

    • You will need a large outdoor area, plastic golf clubs and plastic golf balls. Allow each guest to practice hitting the golf ball as far as he can. Then have them all line up to hit the golf balls. Give each play two plastic golf balls and have him hit the ball as far as he can. The player who hits the balls the farthest distance wins the game and a prize.
