Dinner Party Games
Hosting a dinner party is one way to get together with a group of friends. One dinner party game that you can play is Message Under the Plate. The host places slips of paper with random phrases under the guests' plates. Guests then try to slip their respective phrases into conversations while other guests try to decide who is using their phrase. The last one to use his phrase loses.
If you have friends that can make you laugh, host a comedy night. Give each "improv artist" a set amount of time to make the rest of the crowd laugh, just as you would see in a comedy club.
Board Games
Apples to Apples is a game consisting of two decks of cards -- one deck is labeled "things" and the other "descriptions." A referee chooses a description and players pick things that best match that description from their dealt cards. The referee chooses the thing that appeals most and awards the card to the player who played it. Unusual combinations of things and descriptions are what provides the real entertainment value lies.
Outburst is a game consisting of lists on topic view cards. Two teams take turns trying to guess as many of the 10 answers to a topic on the cards before the timer runs out.
Activity Games
For a more hands-on type of game experience, play the Shaving Game. Have guests pair up. One player from each team lathers the other member with shaving cream and goes on to "shave" the other member with a plastic spoon. See which team can provide the closet "shave" with the fewest strokes.
Charades is a classic game for group participation. Divide your guests into two teams. Write names of books, movies, phrases or TV shows on scraps of paper. One player from the first team draws a random slip and acts out what the paper says by giving signals and gestures for his or her team to figure out before a pre-determined time limit expires.
Athletic Games
For the more athletic group, the Limbo is always a party favorite. Either support a limbo stick (or broom handle) on either side or simply have two group members hold the limbo stick and have team members take turns walking under the stick without touching the stick and without using their hands to touch the ground. Continue to lower the stick with each round until you have just one person who can clear the stick. Another idea is to have Hula Hoop games. See who can hula the longest, which team member can do the most hula hoops at one time for at least 10 seconds or how many of your group can fit into one hula hoop.
