Turkey in the Straw
Prepare for the game by gathering up a small kiddie pool, some straw and a plastic turkey. Cover the turkey in grease or another slippery liquid. Place the turkey in the pool, then cover it with straw. Have all the family members stand about 6 feet away from the pool in a single-file line. When you say "Go," the first player in line runs to the pool and tries to find the turkey and pick it up within five seconds. If unsuccessful, he heads back to the end of the line and a new player tries. The first person to successfully pick the turkey up within five seconds wins.
Pumpkin Roll Contest
Gather up two large pumpkins and position them a few feet from each other at one end of the yard. Divide the group into two teams and stand each team behind a pumpkin. When you say "Go," the first players in both teams roll the pumpkins on the ground toward the opposite end of the yard and back to the next player in line. The first team to have all its players finish rolling the pumpkin back and forth wins the game.
Broom Dance
Gather the players in a large standing circle and turn on some music. Hand one player a broom and tell him to come up with a short dance or move. The player to his left then has to copy the same move and add her own move to the dance. This continues around the circle. Anyone who forgets part of the pattern has to leave the circle. The last person standing wins.
Bird, Beast or Fish
As everyone sits around the Thanksgiving dinner table, pick one player to play the leader. She points to one random player at the table and says either "bird," "beast" or "fish." The chosen player has to come up with an appropriate animal that fits into that category. For example, if the leader says "fish," the player can say "shark." Anyone who can't come up with a word in 10 seconds gets eliminated. The last remaining player wins the game.
